Customer Request and BeSMART.ie Reply

Customer Request: More printout options

BeSMART.ie Response: Currently users can print at various stages. Users can print;

  • Individual risk assessments
  • Safety Statement in PDF and RTF
  • Any additional hazard on completion of a risk assessment process

Customer Request: Ask the participant if there is a better description of their company than the one given

BeSMART.ie Response: Please contact us at wcu@hsa.ie if you would like to give us a better description

Customer Request: Compatibility with Mac

BeSMART.ie Response:  We have tested on all platforms including Mac however if you are finding issues we would like you to contact us with some further information at wcu@hsa.ie

Customer Request:  Questions more relevant towards sole traders working alone

BeSMART.ie Response:  Due to the many different types and sizes of businesses operating in Ireland we do try to write the content to cater for all including sole traders. The control measures are to protect all i.e. employees, customers and employers including the self employed

Customer Request: Include a RA for using Mobile phones/smart phones/tablets

BeSMART.ie Response: We have included the use of mobile phones / smart phones etc. within the controls for many workplace hazards such as driving for work, plant and machinery etc.

Customer Request: More types of companies to choose from

BeSMART.ie Response: We currently have 263 different business types covering 3 main sectors. We are increasing the number of new businesses all the time and if you have any business types in mind please contact wcu@hsa.ie so we can add it to the development list.

Customer Request:  Excellent format. I will recommend to others. Unfortunately I was timed out on a number of occasions. The system could have a longer timeout period

BeSMART.ie Response: We will look at this and see if we can increase the time period before timing out

Customer Request:  To long / A little shorter

BeSMART.ie Response: The length of time needed to complete the risk assessments will depend on your business type and the number of hazards associated with it. The progress bar shows where you are within the hazard assessment process and if you have registered an account you can save and exit at any time and come back at a later stage.

Customer Request: Add a "not applicable" option to the hazards in the first risk assessment screen

BeSMART.ie Response: We have considered this option but decided against it as we want users to read the question associated with each hazard to help them determine if the hazard is applicable or not to their specific workplace.

Customer Request:  Builder status should be classified according to size and numbers of employees, I only have one

BeSMART.ie Response: Contractors with less than 3 employees have an alternative option of using the Code of Practice for Construction Contractors Employing Three or Less Employees available at hsa.ie/construction

Customer Request: Risk rating column for risk assessment / Risk Evaluations Available

BeSMART.ie Response:  BeSMART.ie risk assessment conforms to Standard – IS EN31010:2010 Risk Management – Risk Assessment Techniques

Technique Used: B4 Checklists - A simple form of risk identification. A technique which provides a listing of typical uncertainties which can be considered. Users refer to a previously developed list, codes or standards. The technique does not provide a quantitative output

Customer Request: Allow the option to upload photos to each individual risk assessment

BeSMART.ie Response: Nice idea. We do use some photos within the hover buttons in BeSMART.ie to give a visual feel to the controls required. Currently there is nothing stopping users from adding pictures to the RTF Safety Statement output.

Customer Request:  Add a category for voluntary organisations

BeSMART.ie Response: Some voluntary organisations are already catered for such as Men’s Shed and Group Water Scheme. Please let us know what organisation you are referring to at wcu@hsa.ie and we will add it to our list of development work

Customer Request: No risk assessment for toilet for people with disability

BeSMART.ie Response: We have added this to our list of development work. Welfare arrangements are currently covered in the safety statement output document

Customer Request: Indication on cover of printed report that this is HSA approved.

BeSMART.ie Response: The Safety Statement and risk assessment that you complete using BeSMART.ie is your document, and is only as good as the hazards and controls that you selected by you the user. The HSA are simply providing the tool to enable generation of the document

Customer Request: Would be better if you could add more than one safety statement as we have several sites

BeSMART.ie Response: You can create and generate any amount of Safety Statements for as many sites as you wish. You can have up to 3 working risk assessments on the go at any one time. You can also edit the name and delete the risk assessment by clicking on the pencil symbol on the My BeSMART page

Customer Request: The main site (before selecting BeSmart) needs to be updated and be more user friendly.  The site is difficult to navigate as it’s very cluttered.  BeSmart is a great idea and a very useful tool.

BeSMART.ie Response: www.hsa.ie website is being redesigned at present

Customer Request: Some questions were not relevant to my business.

BeSMART.ie Response: Where a hazard or a control is not relevant to your business or work activities just select ‘No’ to the hazard or control. We need to ensure appropriate controls are in place to facilitate as many types of employers and workplaces as possible

Customer Request: Add General building maintenance

BeSMART.ie Response: We will add it to the list of requested business types

Customer Request: Add business type 'Drama Teacher'
